Their story
From Catalonia to Yucatán
Gonzalo Samaranch founded Mestiza de Indias in 2015 with Martha Elena Chan Tuz. In San Pedro Chenchelá they are building a food system that creates local jobs and preserves Maya knowledge.
Seeds and pollinators
They prioritise heirloom varieties — deeper flavour and genetic diversity — and protect native pollinators. A jungle apiary produces clean honey; the team has documented wild vanilla pollinated by local bees.
Social impact
Against migration to the Riviera, they offer community work, healthy food and a regenerative farm model in the Yucatán jungle.
