CoCo Sapiens was set up so that people who buy food know what is behind each product and can choose. It is the only food certification that looks at everything at once, 360°.

Why join

Is it for you?

Yes, if…

  • You produce food from the land, from livestock or from the sea.
  • You process what you produce yourself: bread, cured sausages, beer, wine… on your own farm and with your own business.
  • In Europe, you have an organic certificate. There are exceptions depending on the type of product.

Another route, if…

  • You have a shop, a restaurant or a short-supply-chain distribution business. You can apply for the CoCo Sapiens 360 distinction if you sell mostly through short supply chains and work with CoCo Sapiens producers. The seal is only for products. Write to us at info (at) cocosapiens.org.

What is not negotiable

  • No GMOs.
  • No biocides or chemical fertilisers, with the exceptions set by the rules for each product family.
  • Soil covered for as long as possible, and tillage that turns the soil reduced or stopped.
  • Rotation in seasonal crops.
  • If there are animals, managed grazing.
  • Part of the farm for wildlife, and measures for pollinators.
  • At sea: artisanal fishing, with small-scale, low-impact gear and close to your port. Never trawling.
  • Decent work: the five ILO principles and, at least, the legal wage or the collective agreement wage.
  • At least 2 out of 4 in every dimension of the wheel.

Not meeting one of them yet?

You can join as a producer in transition. From the first day you can count on accredited consultants in your country. Your profile is published when you meet the standards, and the wheel and the seal come with the certification of each product.

The path, in five steps

  1. You write to usYou fill in the sign-up form. You can save it and carry on later.
  2. We reply within a few daysWith the full form, the standards, the membership terms and the list of what we will ask you for.
  3. You joinYou sign the joining contract and the commitment to the general standards and to the rules for your product family.
  4. We visit youWe check on the farm or at the port what you have declared. The standards committee approves each product separately.
  5. Independent certificationAn outside body certifies the product, and you can carry the seal and the wheel on the label. It is renewed every year.

How much it costs

The fee depends on two things: your turnover and the score of your farm audit. The better the score, the less you pay. We send you the details by email.
